The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
